The Wednesday Evening Figure Drawing Group at Buena Vista Studio is a group of artists from a variety of different backgrounds, educations, and careers with a continued desire to create art work from the live human form.

The original Figure Drawing Group was organized by the University of Missouri's Kansas City Communiversity for extended education. It was often stated that the Figure Drawing sessions were the longest running classes that Communiversity ever offered. Jeff Widener began facilitating the sessions nearly 15 years ago.

The Group has always had a widely diverse roster of artists including attorneys, engineers, computer technicians, current and former Hallmark employees and several artists in different fields of the arts, both in commercial and fine art. Several of the artists have been in the group for decades. There are over 70 artists included in the email list that flyers are sent out to weekly.

The sessions are not instructed, meaning it is not a teaching studio but an open studio of the artist's personal styles, use of materials and methods. With that in mind the comradery and learning in these sessions with fellow artists is an enjoyable and educational setting in itself.

On several occasions art models for the figure drawing sessions pose in character such as Father Christmas or Lindy Hop dancers. A student at a nearby University who dances ballet has been a popular model and is featured several times in this exhibit by different artists. The models convey the grace, poise, and dignity of the human form that the artists attempt to express in their drawings.
